The Punjab government has placed Rawalpindi and Murree districts under Section 144 for one month, barring all public gatherings, rallies and protests across the two districts from October 10 to November 8 in view of the prevailing law-and-order situation.

Under the official notification, public meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations are prohibited for the duration of the order. The directive also forbids the assembly of five or more people at one place throughout both districts.

The notification further prohibits the carrying of weapons, batons and petrol bombs, while pillion riding on motorcycles and the use of loudspeakers are also banned. Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found breaching the restrictions.

Officials said the measure was imposed as a preventive step after a fresh assessment of the security environment, and law-enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure full compliance across Rawalpindi and Murree.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code allows district administrations to restrict public movement and assembly whenever there is a perceived threat to public safety or peace. The order remains effective for 30 days unless it is withdrawn or extended.

The move comes at a time of heightened political tension in the province, with district administrations in several areas adopting precautionary steps to keep order. Residents have been asked to cooperate with the police and to avoid any activity that could disturb public tranquillity.
