All public and private educational institutions in Peshawar will reopen on Tuesday, the city’s deputy commissioner confirmed, a day after schools and colleges stayed shut amid roadblocks following the imposition of governor’s rule.
The deputy commissioner dismissed as misleading the holiday notifications circulating on social media, urging parents and students to rely only on official announcements.
Schools across the city had remained closed on Monday as roads were blocked in the wake of the emergency imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Parents spent the morning in confusion as unverified messages claimed the holiday had been extended, forcing the administration to clarify the position.
Section 144 remains in force in Peshawar for seven days. The order bans public gatherings, the display of weapons, and items that can be used for violence, including spikes, ball bearings, laden batons and petrol bombs.
TransPeshawar also announced that the Bus Rapid Transit service would resume all of its routes on Tuesday as usual, restoring the city’s main public transport lifeline after a day of disruption.
In contrast, educational institutions in Dera Ismail Khan will remain closed on Tuesday, with scheduled examinations cancelled, officials there said.
Meanwhile, education departments in Punjab dismissed fake closure notices doing the rounds on social media and confirmed that schools in the province would follow their regular schedules.
