Gwadar IED Attack: Army Major Martyred, 4 Terrorists Killed

A Pakistan Army major was martyred when an improvised explosive device struck his contingent during a clearance operation in Gwadar, while four militants were killed in a separate intelligence-based operation in Kalat, the military’s media wing said on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces carried out a series of operations in the Shadi Kaur area of Gwadar and Jattakabad in Kalat district on Sunday, acting on reports of terrorist presence.

The first engagement came in Jattakabad, where troops raided a militant hideout in an intelligence-based operation. Four militants, described by the ISPR as India-sponsored, were killed and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered.

In a separate action, security forces launched a clearance operation in Shadi Kaur to hunt down other militants in the area. During the operation, a contingent was targeted with an IED, martyring Major Wajahat Waheed, 37, a resident of Lahore.

The ISPR said clearance operations would continue in the area until the remaining militants had been eliminated.

The operations come amid a sharp rise in militant violence across the country. Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years during September 2026, with 225 attacks documented by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies — a 13 per cent increase over August’s 199, and the third consecutive monthly rise.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the authorities in Kabul to prevent Afghan soil from being used for attacks inside Pakistan, an issue that remains a major point of contention between the two sides despite multiple rounds of talks.
