Security forces have killed seven terrorists in a clearance operation in Gwadar, Balochistan, security sources said on Friday, as troops continued sweeping the area for explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to the sources, the operation remains underway to make sure the area is completely free of planted explosives. Troops are also searching the surrounding areas to trace any material the militants may have left behind.
The clearance operation followed an attempted attack a day earlier, when militants tried to strike an empty construction company camp in Gwadar. Security forces foiled the attempt on October 22, killing three terrorists during the response.
Four more militants were then cornered and killed at a hotel near the Gwadar highway, security sources said, taking the total number of terrorists killed to seven.
The operation was led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), the sources added, with clearance teams working through the area to neutralise any remaining explosive devices.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for foiling the camp attack and killing the terrorists. He said he was proud of the personnel fighting terrorism, adding that the whole nation stood with the forces, and that operations would continue until terrorists and their facilitators were fully eliminated.
The Gwadar operation is separate from the October 18 intelligence-based operations in Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar, in which eight terrorists were killed, according to the ISPR. (Related: Five Terrorists Killed in Washuk Operation, Balochistan)
