Pakistan Forces Repel Afghan Firing in South Waziristan

Pakistani forces have answered firing from across the border in South Waziristan, after Afghan border posts opened fire on Pakistani positions near Angoor Adda, the district administration has said.

The Deputy Commissioner for Lower South Waziristan reported the exchange in a statement shared on Sunday, saying the firing from Afghan posts had been continuing when Pakistani troops responded. According to that account, the response was immediate and targeted several Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive posts across the frontier.

The deputy commissioner said Afghan Taliban personnel abandoned their positions and withdrew following the Pakistani response. He added that, at the time of the statement, no casualties had been reported in Pakistani border areas. No Afghan casualty figure was given, and the statement did not describe the condition of the targeted posts beyond saying they had been left.

The official also said Pakistani forces remained ready to respond to any further aggression along the border. The statement presents the exchange as a defensive response to firing that began from Afghan posts. That characterisation rests entirely on the deputy commissioner’s account; no independent confirmation of the sequence of firing was included in the reports.

The incident follows an earlier exchange in the same area. On the night of 27 October, firing struck civilian houses and the Angoor Adda Bazaar, killing one civilian and injuring five members of a family, according to press reports. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting subsequently said seven Afghan Taliban posts were destroyed in the response to that earlier incident. The two exchanges should not be confused: the casualty figure from 27 October does not apply to the latest incident, for which the district administration has so far reported no Pakistani casualties.

Angoor Adda sits on a sensitive stretch of the frontier, and the exchange comes amid deteriorating relations between Islamabad and Kabul over cross-border attacks. Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent militant groups using Afghan territory to attack Pakistan, a demand Kabul has rejected. The statement announced no talks, ceasefire or further operation.
