Security forces shot down five drones in Balochistan on Friday before they could strike their intended target, security sources said, foiling an attempted attack on a security check-post.
According to the sources, the drones were aimed at a check-post established in the Albat area of Kharan district. Troops responded promptly and destroyed all five drones before any of them could reach the post.
No loss of life or property was reported in the incident, the sources said. The attempted attack has been attributed to Fitna al-Hindustan, described by security sources as an Indian proxy.
The incident is the latest in a series of drone interceptions reported in recent weeks. Last month, security sources said, eight drones that entered Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan were shot down after the air defence system detected them in time.
Officials said at the time that the air defence system deployed along the Pak-Afghan border, operated by the Pakistan Air Force, remained fully operational around the clock.
Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan soil to attack Pakistan, a position Kabul has disputed.
