Security forces have completed clearance operations around Gwadar city and the Gadap border crossing, killing 10 terrorists linked to “Fitna al-Hindustan” — including a woman the militants had used, the military’s media wing ISPR said on Friday. One civilian was martyred in the exchange of fire, while no security personnel lost their lives.
The ISPR statement finalises the death toll from the operations, which initial reports had put at seven. Troops first foiled an attack on an empty camp belonging to a construction company, killing three attackers, and later surrounded four more terrorists inside a hotel near the Gwadar highway. The military wing subsequently confirmed that the combined count from the various actions stood at ten.
According to ISPR, law and order has been restored in the area after the operations were wrapped up. The terrorists, the statement said, had attempted to strike near Gwadar city and the Gadap crossing with the aim of sabotaging development and prosperity in Balochistan. A Baloch woman had been exploited by the terrorists for their designs, the military wing added, and several vehicles were damaged during the incidents.
The clearance drive was led by the General Officer Commanding, and the area along with its surroundings was searched thoroughly to trace any planted explosives and improvised explosive devices so the region could be rendered safe.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the forces for foiling the attack attempt and for the success of the initial action, saying the nation stands firmly behind its soldiers in the fight against terrorism and that operations would continue until the menace is eliminated for good. The statement added that action against terrorism would press on under the national resolve of Azm-e-Istehkam.
