MULTAN: A court in Multan on Tuesday granted police four-day physical remand of the employer accused of chasing down and running over 15-year-old Waseem Abbas, an orphan, in a private housing society a day earlier.

The suspect, identified as Tauqeer Nazir, an electrical contractor, was arrested on Monday after a murder case was registered with the police as the complainant, which means no compromise or settlement between the parties is possible.

According to City Police Officer Multan Akhtar Farooq, the boy lived at an NGO-run orphanage in Multan and had been sent to the suspect seven days earlier to learn the trade. The boy later left the workplace, and the suspect allegedly pursued him in his car. Police say CCTV footage shows the teenager running before the car struck him. Initial investigation found no evidence that the boy had committed theft.

When police brought the suspect to the court for the remand hearing, a group of lawyers attacked him and tore his clothes, according to 24NewsHD. Police rescued the suspect and took him back to the police station in a rickshaw.

The CPO said raids were underway to arrest the second suspect, Amjad Ali, and assured that a strong case would be built against the accused. The body of the boy was taken to Muzaffargarh, where funeral prayers were offered in Daultpur village.

The accused has not yet been convicted, and the case remains under investigation.
