Munir Meets Russian Minister, Vows Deeper Security Ties

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to deepen its longstanding relations with Russia and widen cooperation in the security domain, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday. The statement followed a meeting between the field marshal and Russia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest and the regional security environment, placing particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral security cooperation. They underscored the importance of closer institutional linkages and improved coordination between the security institutions of the two countries.

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability and acknowledged the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism, the ISPR statement added. Both sides also agreed to move towards easing visa rules alongside the expanded security cooperation.

The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to broaden its diplomatic engagement with Moscow, with both countries signalling interest in tangible cooperation in areas of shared concern. The engagement follows a string of high-level contacts between the two states, reflecting the steady growth of the bilateral relationship in recent years.
