Sri Lanka Opt to Field Against Pakistan in Series Opener

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field first against Pakistan in the opening match of the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The toss took place at 12:30pm Pakistan time ahead of the 1pm start. The series also features England, whom Pakistan will face at the same venue on October 20, according to Geo News.

Pre-match previews pointed to a batting-friendly surface at Rawalpindi, where short boundaries have often produced high scores. Pakistan carry strong recent form against the visitors, having won nine of their last ten one-day internationals against Sri Lanka and all five home ODIs against them since 2019, Cricinfo noted.

Babar Azam has enjoyed the Rawalpindi ground against this opposition, with scores of 29, 102 not out and 34 in his last three outings against Sri Lanka at the venue.

The home side also arrive in good limited-overs touch after sealing the T20I series against Sri Lanka with an 82-run victory on October 12. Read our report: Pakistan Seal T20I Series with 82-Run Win Over Sri Lanka.

Weather is not expected to intervene, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting mainly dry conditions and temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in Rawalpindi.
